SVOP COURSE DETAILS
This is a Transport Canada Approved 26 hour course (over 4 days) for operators and those in
charge aboard small
commercial non pleasure passenger workboats and fishing vessels up to 150 GT
Topics covered include
Enhance survival of yourself
and colleagues in the marine environment
Proper use and function of immersion suites, lifejackets, PFD's and
buoyant work suits
Understanding fires, fire prevention and the use of firefighting
equipment
Responsibilities in an marine emergency
Understanding distress calls, rescue, and other emergency response
procedures
Understanding vessel construction, drives and engines
How to secure a vessel to a floating or non-floating wharf and anchor
effectively
Safe boating procedures
Understanding of the Canadian buoyage systems
Understanding and use of marine forecasts
Understanding the principle of small vessel steering including tiller
and wheel control
Start-up, shut-down and manoeuvring procedures
Procedures to be followed to avoid pollution of the marine environment
