Small Vessel Operator Proficiency

 

This is a 4 day course  for operators and those in charge

aboard small commercial vessels

Topics covered include:

· Enhance survival of yourself and colleagues in the marine environment

· Know the proper use and function of immersion suits, lifejackets, PFDs and buoyant work suits

· Understand fires, fire prevention and the use of firefighting equipment

· Know your responsibilities in marine emergency

· Understand distress calls, rescue and other emergency response procedures

· Understand vessel construction, drives and engines

· Know how to secure a vessel to a floating or non-floating wharf and anchor effectively

· Know safe boating procedures

· Understand the Canadian buoyage systems

· Understand and use marine forecasts

· Understand the principle of small vessel steering including tiller and wheel control

· Know start-up, shut-down and manoeuvring procedures

· Know procedures to be followed to avoid pollution of the marine environment

 

   COURSE DATES:

   May 6, 7, 15, 16                                4 days; 8:30am to 5:00pm

    July 8, 9, 17, 18                                4 days; 8:30am to 5:00pm

   COURSE FEE:                               $440.00 for SVOP only + $75.00 manual

                                                             $400.00 for SVOP & MEDA3 + $75.00 manual
