Basic Sail

Students spend 2 evenings or one full day in the classroom in our Pleasure Craft Operator Card Course plus 3 days on the water aboard our 22 to 27 foot sailing yachts.  Upon completion of this course you will be more than well equipped to write the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC) certification with us here at QuickNAV, and will receive your PCOC upon successful completion of the test. You will now begin your hands on experience with your sailing adventure. This certification will provide you with the Canadian Yachting Association (CYA) Basic Cruising Certification, Basic level.  This certification can be taken  to suit your time frame.

The basics on safety, sailboat terminology, standing and running rigging along with instruction in tying knots and hitches, tacking and gybing, boat systems and rules of the road are provided in a serious, fun atmosphere where classroom and a hands on approach are provided to the student before our cruise of English Bay.  Course manual will be provided at registration and should be completed before you start your course.

This certification is generally recognized as the minimum requirement to charter a vessel for day sailing during daylight hours in local waters.  Topics covered are: handling a sailboat while underway, docking, anchoring, points of sail, reefing, person overboard and retrieval drills, basic navigation, weather, collision regulations and the Canadian Aids to Navigation System.

All instructors are qualified seasoned seamen with many years of experience in all weather, providing a close student teacher relationship and certified by the rigorous instructor standards set out by QuickNAV and the Canadian Yachting Association.
