Basic Sail
Students
spend 2 evenings or one full day in the classroom in our Pleasure Craft
Operator Card Course plus 3 days on the water aboard our 22 to 27 foot
sailing yachts. Upon completion of this course you will be more than well equipped to
write the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG)
Pleasure Craft Operator Card
(PCOC) certification with us here at QuickNAV, and will receive your
PCOC upon successful completion of the test.
You will now begin your hands on experience with your sailing adventure.
This certification will provide you with the Canadian Yachting
Association (CYA) Basic Cruising Certification, Basic level. This certification can be taken to suit your
time frame.
The
basics on safety, sailboat terminology, standing and running rigging
along with instruction in tying knots and hitches, tacking and gybing,
boat systems and rules of the road are provided in a serious, fun
atmosphere where classroom and a hands on approach are provided to the
student before our cruise of English Bay.
Course manual
will be provided at registration and should be completed before you
start your course.
This certification is generally recognized as the minimum requirement to
charter a vessel for day sailing during daylight hours in local waters.
Topics covered are: handling a sailboat while underway, docking,
anchoring, points of sail, reefing, person overboard and retrieval
drills, basic navigation, weather, collision regulations and the
Canadian Aids to Navigation System.
All instructors are qualified seasoned seamen with many years of
experience in all weather, providing a close student teacher
relationship and certified by the rigorous instructor standards set out
by QuickNAV and the Canadian Yachting Association.

2 day Intensive Basic Sail
This intensive 2 day course for those that would like a refresher or
have some Basic sailing skills can be done by returning daily to our base
or spending the weekend on the water and returning late Sunday
afternoon. Attendance at our Pleasure Craft Operator Card course is
mandatory and included in your course fee. All course workbooks should
be completed prior to the cruise and learn so you can concentrate on
boat handling.

Intermediate Sail
Spend 3-5 days and nights on the water aboard our
larger sailing yachts in Howe Sound or the Gulf Islands. Feast on
fresh seafood (if we can catch you some!), do a night-time passage under
sail and enjoy the best scenery in the world, all the while taking your
sailing skills to the next level.
Upon completion, you will be awarded your Intermediate Sailing
certification through the Canadian Yachting Association. This
certification is recognized as a requirement to charter a vessel for
overnight sailing in local waters.

Basic cruising, VHF
Radio, Coastal Navigation and First Aid are prerequisites for this
