This clinic will be of interest to those who wish to acquire a better understanding of the weather systems and their evolution. It emphasizes marine conditions, especially those of Vancouver and the B.C. coast. Two formal evening classes or one full day class will cover global patterns and specific marine weather conditions.

Class evening No 1:

Global Circulation: Highs and Lows; Coriolis; Buys Ballot; Isobars; Trade Winds; World Currents.

Formation of Fronts: Interaction of two fluids; formations of fronts.

Analysis of Fronts: Vertical cuts of Fronts; Speed; Evolution of Wind Direction, Pressure and Temperature.

Clouds : Description; Colour slides.

Winds: Origin and Direction; Velocity.

Fog: Causes; Formation

Class evening No 2:

Winds affecting Sailing Conditions: Wind over tide or current; Coastal winds; Effects of Topography; Trade winds; Hurricanes;

West Coast Conditions: Highs and Lows (Summer, Winter), Fronts and Storms, Waves; Funneling; Katabatic Winds; Wind over Tide, Fog.

Sources of Weather Information: On Land; on water.
