VHF Radio/Restricted Operator's Certificate Course

This course is required by law to legally operate a VHF radio.  Our manuals use the latest material for VHF supplied by the Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons.

VHF is a vital piece of safety equipment allowing you to receive safety messages put out by other boaters and the Coast Guard. Get the latest weather report and talk to your friends or make a telephone call. Call the Coast Guard in case of an emergency or check in with a marina to reserve a slip for the night. Don't depend on your cell phone in the case of an emergency, other boaters can't hear your call for HELP!

The course is held either over two evenings or one full day and entails home study along with a practical session simulating emergencies on the water using proper radio etiquette

Objectives:
At the end of this course the student will be able to communicate and summon help from the Coast Guard with the VHF radio, using proper radio procedure.

QuickNAV VHF instructors are certified by Industry Canada to administer the exam at the end of the course. Upon passing the course a temporary licence will be issued that evening followed up by your lifetime credit card-style Restricted Operators Certificate (Maritime) issued by CPS for Industry Canada with DSC endorsement.
