Pleasure Craft Operator Card Course

                   

AS OF SEPTEMBER 15TH, 2009

All boat operators in Canada must have the Card or they risk expensive fines.* There is no minimum age to get certified and no age exemption. The length of the boat does not matter, nor does the size of the engine. The Card is good-for-life and is recognized across Canada and the US.

Topics covered by this course include:

- Safety Regulations
- Understanding your responsibilities under the Small Vessel Regulations
- Understanding your responsibilities under the Criminal Code of Canada
- Understanding Aids to Navigation
- What to do in an emergency
- Crew overboard procedure
- Right of way		 - Fuelling Procedures
- Use and care of lifejackets
- Use of flares
- How to summon help
- How to prepare a trip plan
- Proper equipment to have aboard
- Required charts and publications to have aboard

Do I need a license to operate my boat?

Yes, you will require proof of operator competency by September 15, 2009.

Isn't an operator card just another word for a license?

No; the operator card cannot be revoked and is therefore good for life!

Do I need to take a course before I write the test?

Taking a boating safety course is strongly recommended regardless of age or experience.  However, you can challenge the test without taking a course.  At QuickNAV and their approved Agents you are able to challenge the test . See them under Locations on our web page above.
